November 19 witnessed a fire and emergency evacuation drill at No. 2 Residential College. This drill is one of the main activities of International Campus 119 fire awareness month in 2019. The Assistant Dean of International Campus and Director of the Office of Campus Development and Management (CDM), Qu Lijuan, commanded the drill. More than 300 people including all the undergraduate and graduate students of 2019, new faculty and staff members participated in this drill.

At 16:20 pm, smoke rushing out from Room 3B02 at the 7th block of No. 2 RC, which triggered the fire alarm. CDM acted immediately after receiving the alarm. The order maintenance team, firefighters, medical team, support team and newsgroup were all called to work on site quickly. All the teachers and students were evacuated to the courtyard of No. 2 RC. The order maintenance team, firefighters and the medical team were ready within 3 minutes. At 16:28 pm, the professional fire rescue team arrived. So the trapped person was rescued successfully and received emergency treatment from the medical team. Another team of firefighters rushed into the smoke block of the 3rd floor for firefighting and rescue. Finally, at 16:35 pm, the “fire” was extinguished.

The floor evacuation guides of this drill were all held by the student representatives of the RC's units. This fire drill provided the students both fire escape training and enhanced ability in organizing group activities. Wang Jiayi, a biomedical student from the Class of 2019 said, "Thanks to the participation in this fire drill, we have not only actually felt the ruthless danger of fire, but also learned a lot of firefighting knowledge. Moreover, we have deeply realized the importance of calmness in the face of danger.” Overall, this actual combat fire drill has effectively promoted the safety awareness of the teachers and students and improved their ability to deal with emergencies.
